Giovanna Gelato e Sorbet is a small-batch gelato and sorbet manufacturer based in Malden, Massachusetts, bringing authentic Italian and Argentine gelato-making traditions to New England. Every batch is handcrafted fresh and hand-packed using classic recipes, premium ingredients, and traditional methods — no artificial flavors or colors, ever.
Our Story
Giovanna Gelato e Sorbet is inspired by the rich Italian gelato-making traditions that have long been practiced in Argentina, where founder Eduardo Kreindel grew up watching lines form outside a neighborhood gelato and sorbet factory in Buenos Aires. After 28 years working as an architect in Argentina and the USA, Eduardo turned his lifelong love of authentic, old-world gelato into a new creative challenge, founding Giovanna Gelato in a 350-square-foot space before outgrowing it and opening a larger small-batch production facility in Malden, Massachusetts.
Today, Giovanna's handcrafted gelato and sorbet are hand-packed in small batches with premium ingredients and sold wholesale in over 120 markets, scoop shops, fine restaurants and catering services throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Our gelato and sorbet flavors range from classic Italian favorites like tiramisu and espresso, to Argentine classics like dulce de leche, to modern creations like sea salt caramel, plus rotating seasonal releases. Giovanna also custom-designs gelato and sorbet flavors for chefs at some of Boston's most celebrated restaurants — past collaborations have included Japanese plum, truffle, and marshcotti, a marshmallow-and-biscotti treat. Our Flavor Philosophy
Every Giovanna flavor is designed for a modern, discriminating palate, blending traditional and contemporary recipes with a rotating seasonal lineup. We are committed to using only the finest, most authentic ingredients — you will not find any artificial flavorings or colorings in our Malden, MA facility. Our pistachio gelato is made with real pistachios, our hazelnut gelato with real hazelnuts, and our dulce de leche gelato with authentic dulce de leche imported from Argentina.
Authenticity is also at the heart of our signature stracciatella line. Italian for "broken cloth," stracciatella is made by folding warm fudge into cold, creamy gelato, creating a delicate shell that shatters into shavings throughout every scoop. Over the years, we've also worked with seasonal ingredients to create gelatos like pumpkin pie, apple pie and cinnamon, and sorbets like cranberry and apple cider.
Gelato has become one of today's most popular frozen desserts, prized for its wholesome quality — made with milk instead of cream, using a process that yields lower fat and fewer calories than traditional ice cream. Try Giovanna's small-batch, handcrafted gelato and sorbet and taste how it has traditionally tasted in Italy and Argentina — and how it should always taste.
